Working at The University of Manchester
The University has recently embarked on an ambitious programme to transform its legacy IT systems into sector leading student, academic and support staff facing digital services. The Head of Strategy and Architecture is needed to enable an architecture function that delivers creative enterprise, solution and security architectures and supporting governance frameworks to enable the university to transform its IT services through strategic digital solutions and underlying systems.
The strategy and architecture function is a small, specialised team of 5 FTE providing Domain Architecture Services and is currently expanding to provide solution architecture services through both internal staff and external suppliers.
It covers setting the University IT Strategy, defining the associated Roadmaps to achieve the vision and programme and project architectural governance. It will also include providing solution architecture services to projects.
Reporting directly to the IT Director, you will be highly customer-focused and possess an enthusiasm for working within a University IT environment.
You will be able to show experience of being able to define, develop and implement organization wide strategies for digital services capabilities and cloud services, in line with best practice, in order to deliver value to the University.
Along with producing and maintaining strategies and roadmaps you will be expected to define and deliver best practice services, processes and standards to provide architectural governance and solution architecture across transformational change programmes.
Demonstrating strong stakeholder management skills you will ensure across University buy in to your proposed strategies and gain University funding and support for your roadmaps.
Providing leadership to a diverse team through effective management, direction, and motivation including performance and development reviews you will be experienced in all aspects of directing and leading a matrix management function
In addition to managing your own function you will be an experienced and influential member of the IT leadership team, responsible for decision making and providing support and guidance to your colleagues.
You will also play a key part in the planning and organizing of resources including allocated budget in order to ensure maximum levels of performance whilst also reducing the cost of ownership of technology across the full lifecycle
Utilizing your experience and expertise you will define and set the strategy for applications and infrastructure rationalization and simplification to create an effective digital roadmap for the University to ensure maximum value is obtained from IT services in the most cost effective way.
